Which Mattress Do 5-Star Hotels Use? How to Get the Hotel Feel at Home

The short answer

Most 5-star hotels use a medium to medium firm pocket spring mattress, usually 30 cm or thicker, with a soft pillow top or euro top, made for them by established makers such as Serta, Simmons, Sealy and King Koil. The “hotel feel” comes from that combination of firm support underneath and a plush surface on top, finished with a topper and crisp cotton sheets.

What hotel mattresses have in common

Hotels need a bed that suits almost every guest and survives years of use, so they choose a safe middle and build comfort on top of it.

Which brands supply hotels?

International hotel groups usually commission their own models from large mattress makers instead of buying a retail model. Serta, Simmons, Sealy and King Koil are among the makers best known for hospitality beds, and King Koil sells a hospitality-style model to the public.

That is why you rarely find the exact hotel mattress in a shop, but you can find the same construction.

How to get the hotel feel at home

Choose a pocket spring mattress with a pillow top or euro top in medium to medium firm. Add a mattress protector, cotton sheets with a smooth weave, and two pillows per person of different heights.

Hotel Feel is MBF Mattress's own collection, built around this idea, with cooling fabrics and gel memory foam suited to Malaysia's climate.

Why the bed at home may still feel different

Hotel rooms are cool, dark and quiet, the bedding is freshly laundered, and you are usually tired from travelling. Part of the hotel feel is the room, not the mattress.

Lie on a few pillow-top models in a showroom before buying: the difference between plush and too soft is easier to feel than to describe.

Ask us on WhatsApp
01Which mattress is used in 5 star hotels?

Most 5-star hotels use a medium to medium firm pocket spring mattress with a pillow top or euro top, custom-made by makers such as Serta, Simmons, Sealy or King Koil. You can get the same construction for home in a pillow-top pocket spring mattress.

02Why are hotel beds so comfortable?

Because of the layers: a supportive pocket spring mattress, a plush pillow top, often a separate topper, and crisp cotton sheets, in a cool, dark and quiet room.

03Can I buy a hotel mattress for my home?

The exact models are usually made only for the hotel group, but pillow-top pocket spring mattresses built the same way are sold to the public, including hospitality-style models from King Koil and the Hotel Feel collection at MBF Mattress.

04Are hotel mattresses firm or soft?

Medium to medium firm underneath with a soft top layer. That combination suits the widest range of guests.
