Serta vs King Koil vs Dunlopillo: Which Mattress Brand Should You Choose?

The short answer

Serta, King Koil and Dunlopillo are all established pocket spring brands sold in Malaysia. King Koil has the widest range (31 models from RM 1,388), Dunlopillo is the pick if you want natural Dunlop latex with cooling fabric (14 models from RM 1,999), and Serta keeps to 3 models with 7-zone pocket springs (from RM 5,599). The right one is the one your back agrees with after ten minutes lying on it.

Mattress brands in Malaysia compared

MBF Mattress carries 7 brands and 76 mattress models, priced from RM 299 to RM 16,528. Prices below are current starting prices for the smallest size of each model.

Serta

Serta's range here is short and easy to compare: Support, Comfort and Indulgence. All three use a 7-zone pocket spring with foam encasement and Cooltech knit fabric. The step up between them is the comfort layer: orthopaedic support foam on the Support, latex and a pillow top on the Comfort, and a pillow top plus euro top on the Indulgence.

King Koil

King Koil has the most choice, with 31 models from RM 1,388. Entry models use its Trizone coil system; mid-range models move to pocketed coils or the Chirotech coil system with natural latex and Coirtex natural fibre for a firmer feel; and there are all-latex models without springs.

Choose King Koil if you want to fine-tune firmness and budget, because there is usually a model one step firmer or softer than the one you just tried.

Dunlopillo

Dunlopillo builds around natural Dunlop latex over individual pocket springs, with cooling fabrics on most models. Several models state their firmness, which makes them easy to compare: IcyDream is medium (5/10), IcyLuxe is medium firm (6/10) and IcyCool is firm (7/10).

Choose Dunlopillo if you sleep hot or want the springy, supportive feel of latex.

How to decide between them

Set a budget, then try one model from each brand at that price on the same visit. Lie in your normal sleeping position for at least ten minutes on each, with your partner if you share the bed. Brand matters less than how your shoulders, hips and lower back feel on that particular model.

All of them can be tried side by side at MBF Mattress, which has 21 showrooms across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Melaka and Seremban.
